The building itself is truly impressive. The largest church in the world, it has a 218 meter long nave. The basilica's dome, designed by Michelangelo is the largest dome in the world measuring 42m in diameter and reaching 138 meter high (more than 450ft). The interior, which includes 45 altars, is decorated by many famous artists. Some of the most important works in the church are the Pietà by Michelangelo, the papal altar by Bernini, the Throne of St. Peter - also by Bernini - and the Monument to the Stuarts by Canova.

I want to know if you climbed to the top, Tracy, and talked to the disciples up there?? And did you find the mailbox up at the dome level?? So many questions, so little time!
Tracy: You are always so impatient woman
We have all the time in the world
I think the welcoming arms were designed by Michelangelo, Tracy (around the plazza)
Tracy: Yes I believe you are right Chad, go to the top of the class
It was a feast to my eyes Chad I stood and was amazed at the size of this place. Thanks for your comment
Wow!
And clocks by...eerrr...Rolex? Is this where the jealous Roman Catholic god lives, or is it merely the office of his secretary [the Pope]? It was good of the folks to pose for you Tracy, as it allows me to appreciate the dimensions you quoted.
Tracy: LOL Ray they were Rolex how did you guess!!!
The building was just amazing, I could not get over the size of it wow. Thanks for youe wit as usual Ray,it makes my day
It is a great old building and ditto picture of it.
We have a new (3 years) church nearby that seats 15000 people cinema style, many rooms for other activities all under one roof. From the outside it reminds somewhat of a shopping mall.
Tracy: Thanks Louis for your comment.
I would not like to estimate how many people would fit in the magnificant building. It is so vast inside.
Beautifully presented Tracy. Love the way it is framed against the moody looking sky.
Ingrid
Tracy: Thanks very much Ingrid. That sky was moody it kept wetting us and then smiled on us for a while lulling us into false hope and then wetting us again.
Impressive. We have a little cast metal model of this on the kitchen window sill that Angie's dad brought back after the war (I think) It is not as impressive as this!
Tracy: Theres no way you would get this on your sill Bill!!
It really is a magnificant building
Beautiful presentation. I like the framing here!
Tracy: Thanks Richard

Tracy: Thanks so much Helen nice to see you
some building that Tracy, i wonder if they would ever consider selling it as a good will gesture to feed the poor doubt it eh, well framed Tracy
Tracy: I put your name forward for the rebuild Tim, thought you would like the challange for a year or two. No skin on the fingers after that job!! Micropore would be laughing..
I think you have got Bob Hope of them doing that. Thanks Tim
Wow! Magnificent building! Well done
Tracy: Your so kind Jose Angel.
Magnificent is the only word that fits, and it's mean to be like that isn't it. The massive scale of everything, including those arches to either side. I wonder why they are so high.
Really a great shot, very well done and it's not so easy with this huge building !
