The Colosseum is probably the most famous landmark in Rome. Built in the 1st century AD, this great arena could seat 45,000 spectators and was the largest Roman amphitheater in the world.
It hosted gladiatorial combats, spectacles with wild beasts and possibly the execution of early Christians. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Colosseum was believed to be a place of martyrdom and was therefore regarded as a sacred place.

I think of the all the shots taken of the Colosseum, I liked yours the most. Wonderful and I'm not saying that
Tracy: Maria thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Your such a sweetie.
and still an impressive site.
Tracy: Thank you Gail, appreciate your kind comment
Nicely done Tracy.
Tracy: Cheers Martie thanks a lot
I was at the Colosseum a couple years ago on a hot and dry day and my photos were so different. In this photo you have done a lovely job of capturing its size while also capturing the heavy feel of the air - you can almost smell the rain. Lovely.
Tracy: There was plenty of it Jewlya, on that day we got soaked and then some. Even with brollie's!!
Thanks for your kind words they are much appreciated
Great capture Tracy, looks so cold and wet.
Tracy: Not so much cold but it was very wet Vintage. Thank you
Have to agree with the other comments, great photo. And what a pleasant change to see things in the rain under a grey sky.
I went to Rome when I was 12 years old, on a school trip. Most of it had faded from my memory completely, but your photos bring some of it back.
Tracy: So pleased to be bringing your chilhood memory's back Sheila.
Thanks for the comment
Nice shot Tracy...you had some rotten weather!
Tracy: We sure did Bill. Thanks

Tracy: Thanks Richard It was a very damp day indeed
I like this lessor known view of the Colosseum, Tracy.Good to see i on a damp day too for some reason.

This is an amazing structure. One day I am going to visit it!
Tracy: You must Martin, the buildings are outstanding

you went to Rome to get away from our horrible weather and what happens..you get wet.
Tracy: Wet is wet never mind. Went Plymouth this weekend and we had wet there too
Not converted this on yet no Thanks Tim
They don't make em like this anymore, if this were in the USA, we would tear it down for a stripmall.
Tracy: LOL I know what you mean Clarence, thanks for the comment
Fabulous shot here from that famous landmark, Tracy this is GOOD...I have seen 'the Gladiator' many times, you did great in this really bad weather, nice job Musketeer, you can be proud.
Tracy: Astrid you are to kind mijn vreind. Thank you for your kind words they mean alot to me. This was the worst day we were like drowned rats
Thank you for your support Musketeer
Great angle! Really this shot is so beautiful. There is so much going on in it too.
Tracy: Cheers Jen, so many people milling around and in the wet too.
Nice one, Tracy.
Really like that you included that bird...I am guessing it was one of the "extras" hired by Ridley Scott and that it is still waiting for its 15 minutes of fame cos it slept through the original cal for "Action" and has been the object of mirth for its siblings ever since.
Tracy: LOL Ray, I thought the bird would of been picked upon before, as thats what I liked about the shot but hey I guessed you would, with been a lover of BIRDS, the feathered kind
Your wide-angle lens relly came in handy for this fabulous shot, Tracy. A couple years ago we actually did the inside tour (not this past November) and I was almost sick to my stomach when I saw things that brought back the history of this place. Sigh. What a place!
Tracy: Inside is tomorrow mijn vriend, you are always one step ahead, but that is no more than I would expect from you!!!!
I was amazed by the size of the place Great to hear from you Musketeer
Wonderful buildings are that! And also a nice place to make special photos! Maybe it would be nice to add some contrast to the photo!
Tracy: Thanks for your input Robbie
What a super trip you must have had, despite the rain.
Are they rebuilding this? Some of it is pock-marked while some looks relatively newly plastered.
Tracy: It was a fantastic trip but could have done with a break when we got back, as we walked 8hrs or more a day.
Some restoration work was being undertaken Thanks for the comment
I love the shot. Thanks for sharing the info.
Tracy: Yor welcome I am so pleased you like the shot
